This is why I run.

Wednesday 12th May
My entire life has been defined in some way by mental health.  Mental illness has been a generational war in my family, with each member fighting their own battles with schizophrenia, bipolar, OCD, depression and anxiety.  In my adulthood I've used these experiences to define my own life and career.  My PhD focuses on factors that may make someone susceptible to psychosis.  My previous volunteering roles at Lifeline and Illawarra Clubhouse extended on this to work with people in the community in finding their independence within their lived experience with mental illness.  I teach at the university to help the next generation of mental-health helpers fight this fight - to help people understand their 'why' every day.  Why the fight is worth it.  Why they are worth being here and alive.

This is why I run.
