My Goal

SUICIDE SURVIVOR TO WALK 300 KM FOR @RUOKAY

A MESSAGE FROM A SUICIDE SURVIVOR: I am sure that in one way or another suicide and mental health issues have affected each and every one of us out there!! Unfortunately for so many of us though it continues to remain a subject that we just don't speak about often enough, which is the saddest part.  For so many who do suffer from mental health issues and contemplate suicide or in fact tragically do commit suicide only ever need or needed someone to ask them "ARE YOU OKAY?" Because something as simple as starting a conversation can save someone's life!!

For those who do not know me that well, I speak openly about my own mental health battles that have affected me for more than a decade now and still do to this day and I myself am a suicide survivor having made attempts to take my own life because at the time i just didn't know another way out.

I also have people close to me who have experienced the same battles and as an Army Veteran I know of many more who I have served with who are the same and some who have tragically taken their own life due to lack of support or just lack of recognition with their struggles.

And the fact that this is happening is just not on, because as a community we can do something to lessen the impact that mental health and suicide has on our communities and our families and that starts with raising awareness and openly talking about these issues with family, friends, work mates ect and also supporting organisations such as RUOK who do so much work to support people suffering from suicide and mental health issues.

After a very difficult last 12 months or so and the impact Covid has had on the community it is even more important to address these topics of suicide and mental health and to be aware of how someone close to you or even someone that you work with is actually feeling!!

As a long serving representative of Anytime Fitness, the Manager St Kilda and also a Treadmill Challenge veteran, this year Anytime Fitness Australia have asked me to be a Community Ambassador for the event which I have proudly accepted and will be doing my best to raise as much awareness to help prevent suicides amongst Australians.

As for this year’s event I will be attempting to walk a total of 300KM on a treadmill over 7 days at Anytime Fitness St Kilda. This is basically the length of a marathon (42.5KM) each day and I would love to have you all support my goal by donating towards RUOK or even just coming down to the club and giving me moral support to complete my goal.

FIGHTING THROUGH COVID LOCK-DOWN IN VICTORIA!!!

Thursday 13th May

Did you know that 65,000 Australians attempt to take their life each year? We believe that gives us 65,000 reasons to run for a great cause!

Thursday 13th May

Every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their lives – that gives me 65,000 reasons to Tread As One.

R U OK?'s vision is a world where we're all connected and protected from suicide.

Their mission is to inspire and empower people to meaningfully connect and lend support to the people in their world who may be struggling with life.

I believe in their mission and will be running as far as I can and raising as much money and awareness as possible for this cause that’s close to my heart.

I’d really appreciate your support – every donation helps.

Your donation will help inspire people to take the time to ask "are you OK?" and listen, which can help people struggling with life feel connected long before they even think about suicide.

Thank you for your support, together we will make a difference as we Tread As One.
